                  Medical Coding is the process of assigning numeric or alphanumeric codes to medical diagnoses and procedures, and entering them into a computerized record system.

            Medical coders use the alphanumeric codes from various coding systems, including the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, to assign codes to diagnoses and procedures.

                 ICD codes or International Classification Of Diseases are set of diagnostic codes set by World Health Organisation (WHO) . For instance ICD code, R09.1 denotes Pleurisy.  

 

                Pleurisy is an inflammation of the pleural membrane, which is the tissue surrounding the lungs. Symptoms of pleurisy include chest pain that worsens when inhaling or coughing, shortness of breath, and a dry, hacking cough. Treatment for pleurisy is typically aimed at reducing inflammation and pain, and may include medications such as ibuprofen and naproxen. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to remove fluid from the lungs.
