MEDICAL CODING

Medical Coding is the process of assigning standard codes to medical diagnoses and procedures related to the treatment of patients in order to facilitate the collection and analysis of healthcare data.

Medical coders use the alphanumeric codes from various coding systems, including the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, to assign codes to diagnoses and procedures.

ICD Codes or International Classification of Diseases are set of codes published and managed by World Health Organisation (WHO). For instance ICD code, N70.01 denotes Acute Salpingitis.

Acute salpingitis is a type of infection that affects the fallopian tubes, which are part of the female reproductive system. It is typically caused by bacteria such as Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis. Symptoms of acute salpingitis include pain in the lower abdomen, vaginal discharge, fever, and pain during intercourse. Treatment typically involves a course of antibiotics and may include surgery if the infection is severe.
