                     Medical coding is the process of giving diagnoses and procedures a set of numeric or alphanumeric codes and inserting those codes into a computerized record system. The ability to track and analyze patterns in patient treatment over time is made possible by accurately entered patient data. This information can be utilized to pinpoint areas for improvement and create plans to raise the standard of treatment.

                       Medical Coders uses a set of assigned codes for coding purposes. These codes are mainly, CPT , HCPCS and ICD. ICD codes or International Classification of Diseases are set of codes which contains diagnosis, signs and symptoms or any other abnormal findings in a patient. For instance ICD code E75.22 denotes Gaucher disease. 

                    Gaucher disease is an inherited disorder caused by a deficiency in the enzyme glucocerebrosidase. The disorder leads to the buildup of a certain type of fat (called glucocerebroside) in cells and organs. Symptoms can include an enlarged spleen, anemia, easy bruising, bone pain and fractures, and fatty deposits in the liver and other organs. Treatment options include enzyme replacement therapy, medication to reduce spleen size, and bone marrow transplant.
