                Medical Coding is the process of assigning standard codes to medical diagnoses and procedures related to the treatment of patients in order to facilitate the collection and analysis of healthcare data.

           Medical coders use the alphanumeric codes from various coding systems, including the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, to assign codes to diagnoses and procedures.

             ICD Codes are also known as International Classification of Diseases. These are a set of codes published and managed by World Health Organisation (WHO). These codes contains diagnosis, signs and symptoms, or any other abnormal findings on a patient. For instance, ICD code F48.9 denotes Non Psychotic Mental Disorder. 


         Non-psychotic mental disorders include anxiety disorders, mood disorders, eating disorders, and personality disorders. Examples of these disorders include depression, generalized anxiety disorder, bulimia nervosa, and borderline personality disorder.
