                     Medical coding is the process of assigning medical codes to documentation in a patient's medical record for reimbursement and data collection purposes.

                         Medical coding is essential for identifying medical errors and for monitoring the quality of care. This allows for the identification of areas of improvement and for the development of strategies to improve care.

                       Medical coders use the alphanumeric codes from various coding systems, including the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, to assign codes to diagnoses and procedures.
