MEDICAL CODING
Medical Coding is the conversion of a patient's healthcare procedures, treatment received, equipment used and more by a health professional or a doctor into alphanumeric codes. These codes must be accurate as they are sent to insurance companies to claim insurance for payment purposes.
Medical Coders use a set of specific assigned codes for coding purpose. These are mainly ICD, CPT and HCPCS. ICD codes or International Classification of Diseases are set of diagnostic codes published and managed by World Health Organisation (WHO). For instance ICD code L84 denotes Callus.
Callus is an area of hard, thickened skin that forms in response to repeated friction, pressure, or other irritation. It typically forms on the hands, feet, elbows, and knees. Callus is generally painless and does not require medical treatment. However, some people may choose to remove callus for aesthetic or comfort reasons. Calluses can be removed with manual exfoliation, chemical exfoliants, or specialized tools.
