                        Medical Coding is the process of assigning numeric or alphanumeric codes to medical diagnoses and procedures, and entering them into a computerized record system. The codes generated are send to insurance companies to claim insurance for payment purpose.

                Medical coders assign codes to treatments, tests and procedures that are used to submit accurate claims for reimbursement from insurance companies and government programs. This helps to ensure that providers are properly compensated for their services.  


                   For Coding purpose, the coders use a specific set of codes which includes, CPT, HCPCS and ICD. ICD codes are International classification of Diseases which are set of diagnostic codes. These contains a patient's diagnosis, signs and symptoms or any other abnormal findings on a patient. For instance ICD code,  H10.9 denotes Conjunctivitis.

               Conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the eye, commonly caused by a virus or bacteria. Symptoms include redness and itching of the eyes, a burning sensation, and discharge.
